What Exactly Is A Service Call?
Scenario - You have called up a service company to request work on your sprinkler system, air conditioner, or other household appliance. After the work was completed, the technician hands you the invoice, and on it, it says “service call” and has the corresponding amount. You pay the bill, and after the guy leaves, you wonder what exactly that charge was about.
We feel that a “service call” is a rather broad term whose definition is likely to vary. The meaning of “service call” from company to company, trade to trade, from the Sears appliance repair guy to the carpet cleaning company is obviously not the same.
While I can’t speak for the aforementioned groups, I can speak for JB IRRIGATION and would like you to know exactly what our “service call” is.
IN A NUTSHELL A SERVICE CALL IS - up to 1 hour of technician labor and use of our tools and equipment on your site. On our invoice, there is a “service call” charge with a corresponding amount.
Things we do when we perform a service call…
- Consult with homeowner or property manager (via phone or fax if not present) about their service needs
- Check irrigation system to:
- Verify problems described by customer
- Troubleshoot system for problems/solutions
- Verify system operation
- Identify any additional repair items that the customer may be unaware of
- Repair irrigation system, and then re-check the irrigation system to verify that a sound repair has been made OR Prepare/submit estimate (verbal or written) if there are many repairs or cost of repairs are going to exceed a predetermined specified amount
NOTE: Many repair jobs can be completed within the “service call” time (1st hour). However, some more complicated problems, or multiple problems on the same system may require additional time for completion. In these cases we pro-rate the service call rate to account for the additional time spent.
